Average grade points directly when every class counts equally toward GPA.
Equal classes make the shortcut valid
When every course has the same weight, assigning 1 credit to each class gives the same answer as averaging grade points directly. If a semester class is worth 0.5 credits and a year-long class is worth 1 credit, this shortcut is not valid.
